Ami Modi is a 47 years old woman who was born in New York, USA. Since a young age, she takes an interest in designing the diamond jewellery. Ami and Nirav Modi studied from the same college, The Wharton School, USA and knew very well each other. They remained in touch after when Nirav dropped out of the college for joining his maternal uncle, Mehul Chinubhai Choksi‘s company Gitanjali Gems Ltd. She later got married to Nirav Modi and became his business partner in his diamond jewellery business.

Controversy
In February 2018, Punjab National Bank (PNB) filed a complaint against her husband Nirav Modi by alleging that he was defrauding the bank of approximately Rs. 11, 400 crores. As per the reports, Ami along with her uncle-in-law Mehul Choksi and brother-in-law Nishal Modi have also involved in this case of fraud. The bank claimed that they were fraudulently involved in issuing bank guarantees or Letters of Undertakings (LoU) at the Mid Corporate Branch of the bank in the Brady House of Mumbai. However, she left India along with her children on 4 January 2018 to save herself from the investigation. The Directorate of Enforcement handles this case.
