Digambar Kamat is an Indian politician. In 2007, he was elected as the eleventh Chief Minister of Goa. In 2012, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Manohar Parrikar succeeded him as the Chief Minister of Goa. From 2009 to 2012, he served as the president of the Swimming Federation of India. In 1994, he was elected as a member of the legislative assembly from the Margao constituency backed by the Indian National Congress. On 31 March 2022, he was designated as a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee.

Career
Digambar Kamat began his political career in 1985 when he contested the Municipal Council elections, and he was appointed as the Councillor of Margao Municipal Council. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Goa Agriculture Produce Market Committee in 1979. Digambar Kamat served as a Member of the Southern Planning and Development authority nominated by the Government of Goa from 22 September 1986 to 22 September 1989. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Goa Agriculture Produce Market Committee, Margao on 24 September 1991, and he served the post till 23 September 1996. Digambar Kamat started working as a Member of the Executive Committee of the National Council of State Agriculture Marketing Board (COSAMB) New Delhi in July 1992. He was promoted as the Vice-chairman of COSAMB, New Delhi in November 1994. Digambar Kamat served as the Honorary Secretary of the Goa Badminton Association from 1976 to 1978.

In 1994, Digambar Kamat joined the Indian National Congress coalition government in Goa. In December 1994, Digambar Kamat was appointed as a Member of the Second Legislative Assembly of Goa, and he served the position till February 1999. In 1995, he was appointed as a Member of the Committee on Government Assurances and a Member of the Select Committee on the Goa Advocates and Welfare Fund Bill (1995), and he served the post for a year. In 1996, he started working as a Member of the Committee on Government Assurances, Member of the Business Advisory Committee, and Member of the House Committee to study Model Rent Control Legislation and served the position till 1997. Digambar Kamat was designated as a Member of the Panel of Presiding Members, Member of the Committee on Public Undertakings, and Member of the Committee on Government Assurances in 1997, and he served the positions for a year. He was appointed as a Member of the Town and Country Planning Board on 26 November 1999. In 1999, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances till 2000. In 2005, he joined the Indian National Congress in voters’ referendum choice from the Margao constituency. Digambar Kamat retained his Margao Constituency seat as a member of the Margao Constituency till 2009. In September 2007, he was appointed as a Member of the Rules Committee, a Member of the Business Advisory Committee, and the Chairman of the House Committee for the finalization of sites for garbage treatment plants/ landfill sites till April 2008. On 9 September 2009. Digambar Kamat began working as a Member of the Business Advisory Committee and a Member of the Rules Committee, and he served the positions till 2012. On 6 March 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party won the Goa assembly elections, and Manohar Parrikar was appointed as the new Chief Minister. Digambar Kamat started working as a Member of the Select Committee on the Goa Succession, and Special Notaries and Inventory Proceeding Bill on 6 August 2012. He worked as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings and served the position till 2016. Digambar Kamat began working as s a Member of the Select Committee on the Goa School Education (Amendment) Bill (2014) on 21 August 2014. On 10 August 2016, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Select Committee on the Goa Staff Selection Commission Bill, 2016. In 2017, Digambar Kamat was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings, and he served the role till 2018. On 17 July 2019, backed by the Indian National Congress, Digambar Kamat was elected as the leader of the opposition of the Goa Legislative Assembly. In March 2022, he was elected as a member of the legislative assembly from the Margao Constituency in Goa.

He is a three times receiver of the COSAMB award and the Bakshi Bahadur Jivabadada Kerkar State award for outstanding performance in the field of sports from 1994 to 1996. Under the guidance of Digambar Kamat, the Golden Shield was awarded to Goa at the All India National level competition for grading Agriculture commodities from 1979 to 1987.
