A College Topper-turned-Gangster

Gogi used to be a bright student while he was in school and college. He participated in various Volleyball competitions and won medals. At the age of 17, he got an injury on his right shoulder due to which he could not continue playing Volleyball. When he was in college, he started getting involved in college politics, and from there, his political rivalry with the Tillu Tajpuria gangster started. Initially, they were good friends, but college politics turned them into rivals. Their rivalry grew to such an extent that college rivalry converted into a gang war. One day when Gogi was taking his father to a hospital in a car, a member of the Tillu gang banged Gogi’s car. Gogi got extremely angry at that time and warned Tillu’s gang. He said,

Today I will leave you because I am with my father. The next time, I’ll kill you.”

In 2009, Gogi faced a huge setback when one of his best friends and his right-hand, Sunil Maan, joined his rival gang, ‘Tillu Gang.’ In an interview, Gogi’s mother talked about Jitender and Sunil’s friendship, she said,

As a child, Sunil would come to our house and the two would lie in the verandah, talking for hours. So thick was their friendship that Sunil would run to our home every time his mother didn’t make chapatis for him. They were inseparable; it’s quite unfortunate how things changed.”

In 2010, after the demise of Gogi’s father, he started involving himself completely in various illegal activities like murder, extortion, and possessing of illegal weapons. In 2016, the Panipat Police arrested him, but within three months of his arrest, he escaped while he was going to court for a hearing in a case. A reward of Rs. 4 lakh was kept on Gogi’s head and were to be given to those who would give information related to Gogi. In 2017, he was involved in the murder case of the Haryanvi singer Harshita Dahiya and the Aam Aadmi Party leader Virendra Mann. Harshita was murdered for being the prime witness in a murder case (which involved one of the member’s of the Gogi gang). In the same year, he was involved in the murder case of Devender Pradhan from Alipur.

I have not spoken to my son in five years; we just want this gang war to end. We have had enough. Gogi should hand himself over to the police. I don’t even know if he thinks about us.”

His sister-in-law added,

We found a girl for him to marry, but he refused to see her. He said he does not want to drag a woman into a life of crime.”

Death

On 24 September 2021, at the District Court, Rohini, Delhi, he was shot dead by the two members of the Tillu gang who were present in the court in a lawyer’s uniform. [5] He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he had already died before he reached the hospital. As per the local police officials,

Two assailants in the uniform of advocate fired upon Gogi in court, following which police also opened fire. The killers, who belonged to the ‘Tillu’ gang were “neutralised” by the officers. It was “not a gang war.” Minutes after he entered, they whipped out pistols and opened fire. There was chaos and police personnel of the Counter Intelligence team fired in retaliation.
