Mohan Joshi was born on Tuesday, 4 September 1945 (age 74 years; as in 2020), in Bangalore (Kingdom of Mysore, British India). His zodiac sign is Virgo. After completing his schooling from Pune, he joined the Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune to complete his graduation in commerce. [1]

Family, Caste & Wife

Mohan Sirish Joshi or Mohan Joshi was born in a lower-middle-class family in Bangalore. His father worked in the Indian Army. His mother’s name is Maher Joshi who hails from Nagpur. Mohan has two brothers. He got married at an early age. His wife’s name is Jyoti Joshi, and the couple is blessed with a son, Rohan Joshi.

Career

In 1969, he started acting in theatre plays in Pune. He got noticed through the theatre play ‘Kuryat Sada Tingalam.’

He has acted in more than 8000 stage shows and 30 theatre plays. Some of his popular theatre plays are Aasu Ani Hasu, Gadvach Lagna, God Gulabi, Goshta Janmantarichi, Kalam 302, Mi Revati Deshpande, Tarun Turk Mhatare Ark, Double Cross, and Aaranyak.

He debuted in films with the Marathi film ‘Ek Dav Bhutacha’ in 1983.

He has acted in more than 70 Marathi films including Sawat Majhi Ladki (1993), Tu Tithe Mee (1998), Gharabaher (1999), Not Only Mrs Raut (2003), Deool Band (2015), Mulshi Pattern (2018), and 66 Sadashiv (2019).

In 1993, he was spotted by the Adhikari Brothers, Gautam Adhikari and Makrand Adhikari, and they offered him to act in the Bollywood film ‘Bhookamp.’

He played the role of a villain ‘Gangster Daya Patil’ in the film. He got immense popularity with this role, and later, he got many offers from Bollywood to play the role of villain.

He has acted in more than 350 Hindi films, and in most of the films, he played the character of a villain. Some of his Bollywood films are Gaddaar (1995), Yeshwant (1997), Ishq (1997), Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1999), Gangaajal (2003), Baghban (2003), and Yeh Hai India (2017).

 

He has appeared in a few Bhojpuri films like Janam Janam Ke Saath (2017) and Tabadala (2017).

He debuted in Gujarati films with Hameer (2017).

Apart from working in theatre plays and films, he appeared in various Marathi and Hindi TV serials. In 2009, he debuted in the Marathi TV serial ‘Agnihotra.’ Later, he appeared in many popular Marathi TV serials including Bhairoba (2010), Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta (2012), Chala Hawa Yeu Dya (2015), and Kahe Diya Pardes (2016).

He acted in a few Hindi TV serials including Jamuniya (2010), Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein (2010), and Daadi Amma Daadi Amma Maan Jao (2020).

Controversy

In 2013, Mohan Joshi and actor Chetan Dalvi were beaten by the locals of Nashik for misbehaving after being drunk. The next day of this whole scene, Mohan Joshi resigned from the position of the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad. [2]

Facts/Trivia

• He was born in Bangalore and lived there for 7 years. He then shifted to Pune and completed his studies.

• After completing his graduation, he continued acting in theatre plays and started a job at Kirloskar Group in Pune, simultaneously. Later, he quit his job and started his own transportation company and worked as a truck driver for almost eight years. Once, one of the cars of his transportation company met with an accident, he got disturbed with it and decided to shut down the business.

• In 1999, he received the ‘National Award’ for the Marathi film Gharabaher (special mention).

• In 2003, he was appointed as the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad. He left the position in 2011 and was re-elected in 2013.

• In 2017, he received the ‘Vishnudas Bhave Award’ for his contribution to the Indian theatre, which comprises of a trophy, a citation, and a cash price of Rs 25000.

• His theatre play ‘Kuryat Sada Tingalam’ has been performed for more than 1000 times.

• He is a good singer and has participated in various singing competitions.

• In an interview, when he was asked about working in Bollywood, he said,

I’ve stopped working in Hindi films. Bollywood is full of relatives today. Too many novices are acting in Hindi films. There are so many groups and camps. There is no place there for actors like me who do not belong to any group. Besides, these days the hero also plays the villain’s role, so there is no work for us. I’ve acted in many Bhojpuri films. I find the language extremely sweet, and enjoy working in Bhojpuri films.”
