Career

Initial Years

Satish Maneshinde came to Mumbai from his hometown in Karnataka after completing his graduation in law to become a lawyer. [3] In 1983, he started working as a junior lawyer under the famous and one of the top criminal lawyers in the country late Ram Jethmalani. While working under Jethmalani, Mr Maneshinde handled many high-profile criminal and civil cases for almost a decade. [4] Satish recalled his initial experience of working as a lawyer in Mumbai and said, [5]

I had heard and read of Ram Jethmalani when I was a school student. In 1983, I accidentally met him in the Bombay High Court and mustered the courage to request him to take me as his understudy. I was called to his office the same evening and he agreed. I had the opportunity to work with him 18 hours a day in the initial stages of my career.”

High-Profile Cases

After a decade of working under Jethmalani, Satish landed his first high-profile criminal case in 1993, when he and his legal team defended Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the Mumbai blast case. The criminal lawyer successfully secured bail for the actor after which Maneshinde came into the limelight. Further, he also represented Dutt in the Arms Act case of 2007. Gradually, his association with the celebrities made Satish Maneshinde one of the top criminal lawyers in the country.

In 1998, Satish was approached by Bollywood actor Salman Khan to represent him in the Blackbuck poaching case, and again in the hit and run case of 2002. In both cases, the lawyer successfully got Khan out of the mess. In 2010, he represented model-actress Rakhi Sawant in abetment to suicide case. Maneshinde was also the first choice of actress Rhea Chakraborty in 2020 to represent her in the controversial abetment to suicide case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In the same year, he also donned the hat of Special Public Prosecutor in the Palghar lynching case. In October 2021, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan‘s son Aryan Khan made it to the list of Maneshinde’s celebrity clients after he was arrested by the NCB in the Mumbai drug case. [6] Apart from these, Maneshinde is also known for his other popular criminal cases such as Chhota Rajan’s wife Sujata Nikalje’s criminal case, the famous disproportionate assets case of Mumbai Police inspector Daya Nayak, bookie Shoban Mehta’s match-fixing case, and more.     My principal in the college got really concerned about me and gave me a warning that if I don’t get disciplined and serious about my studies, he will throw me out. Having said that, the principal gave me a separate room in the college where I used to study for at least 12-14 hours a day. Subsequently, I passed college with good ranks.”
