Soujanya was an Indian actress who mainly worked in Kannada films. She committed suicide on 30 September 2021 at her apartment near Doddabele village located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Soujanya aka Savi Madappa (her real name) [1] was born in August 1996 (age 25 years at the time of death) in Kushalnagar city, Kodagu district, Karnataka.

Parents & Siblings

Her father’s name is Prabhu Madappa, and her mother’s name is Renuka Madappa. She had one sister, Yashu Madappa, and one brother, Nithin Madappa.

Career

She acted in a few Kannada films like ‘Santhoshakke’ (2014), ‘Malli’ (2014), ‘Nanobbne Olleyvnu’ (2017), and ‘Real Real – 2’ (2018). As per her Instagram bio, she was also working as a business analyst.

Death

On 30 September 2021, she committed suicide at her apartment near Doddabele village, Bengaluru. She had written a four-page long suicide note, three days before her death. A few lines from her suicide note were,

I am only responsible for this…so family, please forgive me…I had promised I’ll never do such stupid thing in my life but I had no option. I was totally killed inside. Day by day, I was going so low. I never seen me before like before.”

Initially, it was registered as a suicide case, but later, her father, while talking to the reporters, accused the Kannada TV actor Mahesh of mentally harassing Soujanya. [2] He further said,

ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳು ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಷ್ಟು ಹೇಡಿಯಲ್ಲ. ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ತೆಲುಗಿನ ಕಿರುತೆರೆ ನಟನೊಬ್ಬ ಪರಿಚಯವಿದ್ದ. ಮದುವೆಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಈ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಳು. ನಮಗೆ ಈ ಬಣ್ಣದ ಲೋಕವೇ ಬೇಡ ಬಂದು ಬಿಡಮ್ಮ ಎಂದೇ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೆವು. ಆದರೆ ಮಗಳು ಏನಾದರೂ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಪಣ ತೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಳು. ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಆ ಕಿರುತೆರೆ ನಟ ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಸಹ ಆತ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳು ಸಾಯುವ ತೀರ್ಮಾನ ಕೈಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಳಿಗೆ ಪದೇ ಪದೇ ಆ ಕಿರುತೆರೆ ನಟ ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇಂದು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಸಹ ಆತ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಕಿರುಕುಳ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳು ಸಾಯುವ ತೀರ್ಮಾನ ಕೈಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಕಿರುತೆರೆ ನಟ ಹಾಗೂ ನನ್ನ ಮಗಳ ಆಪ್ತ ಸಹಾಯಕನಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮಹೇಶ್‌ನನ್ನು ವಿಚಾರಣೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಡಿಸಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಕಾನೂನು ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಸವಿ ಮಾದಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ನೀಡಿರುವ ದೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ.”

Which translates to,

My daughter is not cowardly enough to commit suicide. My daughter had an acquaintance with Kannada and Telugu television actors. She was repeatedly being harassed for getting married to him. She had told me this. My daughter has been repeatedly harassed by the television actor, and this morning, he was likely to come home. That is why my daughter decided to die. “Mahesh, a television actor and a close associate of my daughter should be prosecuted.”
