Career

Sunil Grover started his career as a radio jockey as RJ Sud in the popular series “Hansi K Phuware” on Radio Mirchi. He made his TV debut with the comedy show, “Full Tension,” which aired on DD National in 1995.

He made his film debut with the role of ‘Barber Totaram’ in the film ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998).”

He has also acted in the first 26 episodes of India’s first silent show ‘Gutar Gu’ that aired on Sab TV in 2010 to 2014. He came into the spotlight after playing the role of ‘Gutthi,’ in the show “Comedy Nights With Kapil” that aired on Colours TV from 2013 to 2016.

Controversies

  • Reportedly, he left the show “Comedy Nights With Kapil” because he had asked Kapil Sharma for a salary hike, which Kapil had refused.
  • In March 2017, Sunil Grover accused Kapil Sharma of misbehaving with him on a flight from Melbourne to Mumbai. A few days later, Kapil admitted that he had an argument with Sunil and questioned the intentions of eyewitnesses who claimed Kapil of assaulting Sunil. To which Sunil replied that Kapil was a great comedian, but if somebody was correcting him (Kapil), he should take that positively.
  • After the downfall of the show “The Kapil Sharma Show,” he started another show by the name “Family Time With Kapil,” on Sony Entertainment channel, which had all the old cast except Sunil Grover. Sunil Grover tweeted that he had not received any call for the new show of Kapil. To which Kapil replied that he had approached Sunil several times.
