Tarkishore Prasad is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one of the two deputy CMs of Bihar. He has been elected as the MLA from Katihar constituency of Bihar for four successive terms (2005-2020).

Tarkishore was born on Thursday, 5 January 1956 (age 64 years; as of 2020) in Talkhua village located in Bihar’s Saharsa district. His full name is Tarkishore Prasad Bhagat. Prasad completed matriculation from High School Katihar in 1970, and then intermediate education from Darshan Sah College, Katihar. [1] Since his younger days, Tarkishore has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He worked for the RSS in various superior positions and then used the RSS ladder to gradually climb into politics.

Political Career
Tarkishore won his first election by a slim margin of 165 votes from Katihar constituency in the 2005 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. Since then, he has retained the seat for four consecutive assembly elections. In the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, he won the electorate from Katihar constituency after defeating RJD’s Ram Prakash Mahato by 10,000 votes. After the victory in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, the NDA government in Bihar appointed him and Renu Devi as the two deputy CMs of Bihar. He has been allotted the finance, commercial tax, environment, forest and disaster management, urban development, and information technology departments in Bihar government. He is also the leader of BJP’s legislature party in Bihar.

- Tarkishore Prasad has several times been accused of doctoring his date of birth by the opposition parties, which is actually true. According to his 2005 election affidavit submitted with the election commission, his age was 48 years, which increased by just one year to 49 in the election affidavit submitted by him in 2010. The same happened in 2015 as he stated his age as 52. In 2020, the chronology of his age again went out of the window, as his age increased by 12 years during the period of 5 years. [4]
- Tarkishore Prasad has a criminal case of “undue influence or personation at an election” registered against him; however, he has not been convicted under the charges framed against him. [5]
