Velmurugan was born on Wednesday, 5 March 1980 (age 40 years; as of 2020), in Viruthachalam, Tamil Nadu. His zodiac sign is Pisces. He did his schooling from Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Mudhanai (up to 10th std.), and he did his 11th and 12th standard from Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School, Virudachalam. As per some sources, he studied at Jayapriya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Virudhachalam, Tamil Nadu. He did D. E. E. Diploma in Music & DMT (Diploma in Music Teacher Training) from Govt. Polytechnic Coimbatore. He then studied at the University of Tamil Nadu to pursue his graduation. [1]

His father’s name is Dhanasekaran, and his mother’s name is Amirthambal. In Bigg Boss house (2020), he shared that his parents did not have enough financial resources to provide treatment to his ill mother due to which she died. After two years of his mother’s death, his father passed away. Velmurugan has one elder brother, Periyasamy. [2]

Career

He debuted as a singer in the Tamil song “Madura Kulunga Kulunga” from ‘Subramaniapuram’ (2008). He has lent his voice for various popular Hindi songs, like “Aadungada Machaan” from ‘Naadodigal’ (2009), “Sangili Bungili” from ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’ (2011), “Aaravalli” from ‘Avargalum Ivargalum’ (2011), “Local Boys” from ‘Ethir Neechal’ (2013), “Atha Ponnu” from ‘Ivan Yarendru Therikiratha’ (2017), and “Sandalee” from ‘Semma’ (2019).

 

He got immense popularity with folk songs like “Madura” in ‘Subramaniapuram’ (2008), “Aadungada” in ‘Naadodigal’ (20069), and “Otha Sollala” in ‘Aadukalam’ (2011). 

He has also appeared as a judge in a TV show. He has worked as a producer in a few music albums like ‘Solak Kollai,’ ‘Poonjsolai,’ ‘Karisak Kaadu,’ and ‘Themmaangu Paattukkaaran.’

In 2020, he participated in the popular TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss Tamil 4’ hosted by the famous Indian actor Kamal Haasan.
