Career Path
In the age of 16, she started her first show with Ekta Kapoor Hum Paanch as a Radhika, but she focus on her study first after completion of her education she worked in it.
Vidya began her work with debut Bengali film Bhalo Theko in 2003 and gain fame after her debut movie in Bollywood Parineeta with famous co-star Sanjay Dutt and Saif Ali Khan
She was acted in comedy film Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) with opposite Sanjay Dutt and also woked in radio jockey.
In 2007, next comedy movie Heyy Babyy woked with Akshay Kumar in which Balan looks as a modern western role.
She got fame and popularity after working in The Dirty Picture (2011) which is adult based movie and successfully on box office, highest grossing film on that time.
Balan got offered to play a comedy role in romantic movie Kismat Konnection with opposite co-starring Shahid Kapoor.

Controversy
In 2011, for her adult film “The Dirty Picture” in south India some social activist and protester burned many posters of her film, and Silk Smitha’s brother also went in Andhra Pradesh High Court to oppose her sister portrayal in the film.

Vidya was born in Kerala but grew up in Chembur Mumbai and completed her schooling from St. Anthony Girls High School, since her childhood she was aspired to build career in film.
Her parents was inspired of her decision to pursued in film industry but they encouraged for study to complete first than focus on entertainment.
When she completed her Master degree from University of Mumbai then she offered a lead role in Malayalam film.
