VJ Sunny is a South Indian actor and video jockey. He gained immense popularity with his role of Suryadevara Jai Surya in the Telugu TV serial ‘Kalyana Vaibhogam’ (2017). He is also known for winning Bogg Boss Telugu 5 trophy.

VJ Sunny, whose real name is Arun Reddy, [1] was born on Thursday, 17 August 1989 (age 32 years; as of 2021) in Khammam, Telangana. His zodiac sign is Leo. He did his schooling at St. Mary’s College, Yousufguda, Hyderabad. Later, he pursued B.Com from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana. [2]

His father’s name is Venkateshwarulu. His mother, Kalavathi, works as a doctor in a government hospital. He has a sister named Rajitha Devi.

Career

Since childhood, he was inclined towards acting and wanted to act in films. Later, he joined a theatre group in Hyderabad and acted in various theatre plays. His performance in the theatre play ‘Allaudin’ was well appreciated by the audience. He then started working as a host with the TV show ‘Just For Men,’ and later, he worked as a lifestyle journalist and interviewed many renowned celebrities. In an interview, while talking about it, he said,

Even when I was a journalist and would do interviews, I always wondered what it would be like to be on the other side of the camera — it was always my dream to be an actor. As a journalist, I did my part for society and now as an actor, I want to entertain people. When I was taking interviews of celebrities, I always had a dream to pursue acting. I am a theatre student and I like dramas and acting. Although I started my career as a journalist I always wanted to get into the field of acting.”

In 2017, he was selected to play the lead role in the Telugu TV serial Kalyana Vaibhogam’ opposite Meghana Lokesh.

 

In 2018, he participated in the TV dance reality show ‘Dance Jodi Dance’ with Samyuktha. In 2021, he was roped in the Telugu film ‘Sakala Gunabhi Rama’ as the lead actor.

In 2021, he participated in the TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss 5’ (Telugu).

On 20 December 2021, his 106 days journey in Bigg Boss Telugu 5 ended when he won the reality show. He also took home Rs. 50 lakh cash and a plot worth Rs. 25 lakh. SS Rajamouli, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Nani, Naga Chaitanya, Shriya Saran, and Ayan Mukerji graced the event.

• In an interview, he shared that he kept his name ‘Sunny’ after the name of his favourite bike when he was in his teens. He further added,
  

  It was a secret that I did not want to reveal. I wanted people to know me only as Sunny and not Arun Reddy. I wanted my screen name to be Sunny since my childhood as I had a bike, which I christened ‘Sunny’ and people used to address me as Sunny and that’s how I chose my screen name.”

• During an interview, he shared that his mother was his biggest inspiration. He said,
  

  My mother always wanted to be an actress; however, she could not pursue her dream as no one encouraged her when she was younger. She supported my decision and I am proud to say that my mother Kalavathi is the reason why I pursued acting.”

• After he quit the show ‘Kalyana Vaibhogam’ (2018), there were rumours that he had a tiff with the makers of the show. During an interview, he cleared all such rumours and said,
  

  There is no truth in these speculations. I still have a great rapport with the Kalyana Vaibhogam team and the channel as well. It’s just that my contract with the makers of the show has expired and I chose to move on with my other work-related commitments. This 1000-episode journey will stay with me forever.

  He continued,

  I had a clean and cordial exit. It was a great working experience with the team which loved me so much, appreciated my work and encouraged me all the while. I want to gracefully move on with the same support and best wishes.”
