His promotion as the skipper of the Indian side was due to the result of his performance in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy 2018-19 where he scored unbeaten 185 runs against Punjab. Under his captaincy in that match, Delhi reached the knockout stage after eight years. Also, he has captained Delhi for Under-16, Under-19, and India ‘A’ Under-19 sides. But as the COVID pandemic hit the entire nation, Yash had to remain in his house just a few days before, he was to travel to National Cricket Academy. “I had to ensure he got the best kit and gear to play from an early age. I gave him the best of English willow bats. He didn’t have just one bat, I kept upgrading them. We had cut down on our expenses. My father was an army man. The pension that he received was used to run the household. Yash would always wonder how we were managing it.”

  • Talking about his capabilities, his coach Pradeep Kochhar told,

“What stood out immediately was Dhull’s ball sense. As the years progressed, Kochar noticed a quality that could not be taught. He didn’t let pressure affect him. He was sensible, calm, and controlled his emotions well. It is this nature that makes him special. Youngsters find it hard to handle the pressure of expectations these days. Yash is an exception.”
