  • After topping the UPSC 2018 exam, he said that he was surprised to see this result, he never thought he would top the exam.
  • His optional subject was Mathematics.
  • He topped UPSC in his first attempt.
  • After topping the exam, he stated this to the news agency, ANI:

It’s a very surprising moment. I never expected to get the 1st rank. I thank my parents, sister & my girlfriend for the help & moral support. People will expect me to be a good administrator & that’s exactly my intention

  • He got a lot of applause from many Twitteratis after he thanked his girlfriend, Sonal Chouhan after topping the UPSC exam.
  • He used to work in a multinational company (Samsung) as a data scientist in South Korea and then as a data analyst in a startup comopany in Bangalore but he quit his job in 2017 to prepare for civil services. He stated this in an interview:

I worked in private sector. I also got a chance to work with a company in the US. I realised that I was just making money and not working for my country. So I made a decision to prepare for civil services

  • Kanishak used to study for 8-10 hours daily which extended to around 15 hours in the last 2 months before his exam. He also took coaching from Delhi.
  • He considers his father as a role model.
  • Kanishak was a very bright student since his school days, he secured 94% in class 10th and 96% in class 12th. After school, he secured 44th rank in IIT JEE (2010).
  • Kanishak is a die-hard fan of Cricket and Football.
  • His family never pushed him to go for civil services, it was his decision to quit his job and start preparing for civil services. According to his parents, Kanishak has always been a very quiet and calm person and he only has few friends.
