Kishori Shahane Vij is an Indian actress, producer, and an eminent classical and folk dancer. She is one of the leading actresses of the Marathi Cinema.

Kishori Shahane was born on 23 April 1968 (age 51 years; as in 2019) in Maharashtra. Her zodiac sign is Taurus.

She was good at academics and had a passion for acting from her childhood. When Shahane was in her 9th standard, she got a chance to perform in a folk ballet “Durga Zhaali Gauri.” It was after that moment that she decided to be an actress. Gradually she started doing professional plays. When Kishori was in her 11th standard, she was offered a role in the Marathi film “Prem Karuya Khullam Khulla” along with Ashok Saraf and (Late) Laxmikant Berde. Thereafter, she enrolled herself in Mumbai’s Mithibai College to pursue her graduation in Commerce. During her college, she was crowned “Miss Mithibai.” By the time, Shahane became a graduate, she had done almost 20 Marathi Films.

Kishori Shahane was born into a Marathi Hindu Family and got married into a Punjabi Family. Not much is known about her parents.

She met Deepak Balraj Vij, filmmaker, during the shooting of the film “Hafta Bandh.” The duo dated each other for a while and tied the knot in 1991. They have a son, Bobby Vij, who is a budding actor. Bobby has worked in two films based on Sai Baba’s life as a child artist.

Career

Kishori Shahane started her acting career in 1987 with the Marathi film “Prem Karuya Khullam Khulla.” However, she shot to fame with “Maherchi Sadi” and “Wajva Re Wajva.” Her performance in dramas like “Moruchi Maushi” (Marathi) and “Aadhe Adhure” (Hindi), earned her recognition and established her as an actress. In 2003, she participated in Mrs. Gladrags Beauty contest and emerged as the runner up of the show. Shahane has worked in various Marathi Blockbuster Films including “Ek Daaw Dhobi Pachhad,” “Nawara Majha Nawasacha,” “Maherchi Sadi,” “Wajawa Re Wajawa,” “Prem Karuya Khullam Khulla,” “Mazha Pati Karodpati,” “Atmavishwas,” “Aytya Gharat Gharoba,” “Ekulati Ek,” “Narbachi Wadi,” and “Balache Baap Bramhachari.”

After working in Marathi Films, Shahane ventured into the Hindi film industry. She has featured in supporting roles in Bollywood films like “Shirdi Sai Baba,” “Hafta Bandh,” “Pyar Ka Devta,” “Bomb Blast,” “Mumbai Godfather,” “Pyaar Mein Twist,” “Shaadi Se Pehle,” “Good Boy Bad Boy,” “Milenge Milenge,” “Red: The Dark Side,” “We R Friends,” “Shagird,” “Superstar,” “Anuradha,” “Policegiri,” and “Mohenjo Daro.”

Shahane has an elaborate TV career, where she has played the characters of different shades. Some of her popular TV serials include “Sindoor Tere Naam Ka,” “Kabhie To Nazar Milao,” “Aise Karo Naa Vidaa,” “Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli,” “Sunder Maza Ghar,” and “Jadubai Jorat.”

As a producer, she has made two films about the life of Sai Baba of Shirdi. In 2019, Shahane participated in the reality TV show “Big Boss Marathi 2.”
