Biography/Wiki

Rajathi Ammal is a 73 Years old widow lady who was born in the year 1945 in Tamil Nadu, India. She was always interested in doing acting since her young age and in the mid of 1960s, she started her career as part of a drama troupe run by poet Kannadasan.

She resides at 14-1, First Main Road, CIT Colony in Mylapore, Chennai.

Family, Caste & Husband

Rajathi Ammal was born into the Hindu family. In the late 1960s, she fell in love with M. Karunanidhi during his election campaign and got secretly married him, who is already married to Late Padmavathi and Dayalu Ammal who is an active businesswoman. Rajathi is not a legally wedded wife of Karunanidhi.

 

On 5 January 1968, she gave birth to a single child Kanimozhi (daughter) who is a Member of Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. She has a son-in-law G. Aravindaan who is a Software Professional and grandsons- Adithyan and 1 more.

Controversy

In 2009, she trapped into the controversy during a conversation with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, when she was supposed to be discussing a land deal in Chennai worth Rs 100 crore, belonged to Tata-owned Voltas and was alleged to have been transferred in the name of industrialist Sangmugnathan for Rs 25 crore. After that, CBI cross-examined the statements of both (Rajathi and Radia),  CA Ratnam and Kanimozhi’s close aide S Saravanan, along with Sangmugnathan but CBI didn’t find any evidence to establish the alleged transfer of land.
