Shantilal Mukherjee was born in Sarsuna, South West Kolkata. He did his schooling from Sarsuna High School, Kolkata and New Alipore Multipurpose School in Kolkata. Later, he pursued Bachelor of Science from Ashutosh College in Kolkata. [1]

Career

He started working as a child artist. He has worked as an actor in Bengali theatres.

He has also acted in a few television serials, like ‘Banhishikha’ (2009) and ‘Ek Akasher Niche’ (2019). He has appeared in various Hindi and Bengali films. Some of his popular Bengali films are ‘Moner Manush’ (2010), ‘Buno Haansh’ (2014), ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ (2015), ‘Byomkesh O Chiriakhana’ (2016), and ‘Michhil’ (2020).

 

He has appeared in many Hindi films, like ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (2016) and ‘Kahaani’ (2012).

  • After his father’s death, he worked at a tea stall and in a construction company to earn some pennies.
  • In an interview, he shared an incident when his son was directing his first short film. He said,

There have been times when I would just work as a driver for the team. I would drive the actors around and keep the food supply going for them. I remember once I got off the car so that the director and his actors could carry on with their brainstorming session. Rwitobroto even complained that there should have been more soft drinks and I immediately ran to the local shop.”

  • He is trained in acting under Ramaprasad Banik.
  • His mother wanted him to become a singer, but he was never into singing. He said.

My guru, the late Ramaprasad Banik, too couldn’t make me sing ever. My mother has also been fiercely against my exercising the vocal chords.”
