Criticised by the Filmmakers
In 2020, she was criticised by the makers of the Tamil film ‘En Peyar Anandhan’ for showing a starry attitude. While talking to the reporters, the makers said,
Athulya had acted in only one film at the time of signing this film. Later, she acted in films of popular directors like Susienthiran and Samuthirakani. Following that, she started thinking that she had become a major star. Every time our film won an international award, Athulya refused to even post about it on her Twitter page. Moreover, she did not cooperate with any of the promotions, like poster and teaser. To top it all, we had planned to do a photo shoot with Athulya Ravi for a poster design at the time of the film’s release. But despite requesting her to appear for the photo shoot for over 20 times, she kept avoiding us, giving one reason or the other. Even now, she has not done anything towards the release on November 27.”
The makers further added,
For what it is worth, she hasn’t become a big star yet. Her films haven’t succeeded. We are disappointed that an up-and-coming artiste like Athulya, who has miles to go, is setting such a bad example. She proudly describes herself as ‘Naan Kovai Tamil ponnu’ in her Twitter bio, but then it is weird that this same Athulya Ravi is the one who is spoiling the chances of a Tamil film producer. There is often a charge that Tamil girls aren’t being given opportunities. But we cast Athulya Ravi just because she is Tamil ponnu, and now, we have been pushed to a stage where we have to beg her to come for promotional events. To be frank, Athulya, who wants to only talk about the films she did with bigger directors, is avoiding mentioning the small-budget films that offered her a chance when she did not have any films in hand.”
