She was born in a Sindhi family. Her parents migrated to India from Pakistan after the Partition of India in 1947 and used to live in a refugee camp in Worli, Mumbai. [2] She has one brother. She was in a relationship with Sujay Sood, a New York-based writer. [3] She has not married yet.

Career

After her post-graduation, she acted in a few French and English plays. She debuted as an actor in the Hindi TV series, ‘Trishna’ (1984), in which she played the role of ‘Roohi.’

In 1987, she acted in the French film ‘Black,’ in which she played the character of a Brazilian girl. She debuted in Bollywood with the 1984 film, ‘Holi.’ Later, she acted in many Hindi films, including ‘Earth’ (1998), ‘Fashion’ (2008), ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ (2008), ‘Student of the Year’ (2012), and ‘Ghost Stories’ (2020). She has also acted in a few French and Tamil films.
